2024 Consortium Commission

 

CultureTones Organisation is happy to announce its first consortium commission for works for solo Bass Clarinet by two Cypriot Composers:

    Tasos Stylianou

    Artemis Aifotiti

The premiere of the works will take place on the 14th of June 2024 at ARTE ACADEMY of MUSIC by clarinetist George Georgiou. 

 

Tier 1

Support fee: 30 USD / 27 EUR 

Benefits:

  1. Score for 1 piece of your choice (after the premiere)

  2. Studio Recording for the selected piece 

  3. Your name will appear on the score as a member of the consortium commission for the selected piece 

Tier 2

Support fee: 50 USD / 45 EUR

Benefits: 

  1. Score for both pieces (after the premiere)

  2. Studio Recording for both pieces  

  3. Your name will appear on the score as a member of the consortium commission for both pieces 

Members of the consortium commission will reserve the right to perform their selected pieces until June 30th 2025.

Artists' Profile:

Tasos Stylianou comes from the town of Morphou, Cyprus. He became a refugee after the brutal Turkish invasion on Cyprus in 1974. He moved to New York at the age of 19 where he studied music at Mannes College of Music where he received a three-year diploma in general music studies. Later he studied Jazz and Contemporary Music at the New School for Social Research where he received his BFA in jazz guitar performance. After his BFA he studied composition privately with Henry Martin and later at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College where he received his MA in Composition. He continued his composition studies by moving to Salt Lake City in order to study with Morris Rosenzweig. There he attended the University of Utah where he received his Ph.D. in Composition. He has participated in many lectures, seminars/ conferences and private sessions participating with composers such as Mario Davidovsky, Johnathan Harvey, Pierre Boulez, Paul Lanskey, Fred Lerdahl, Steven Mackie, Chen Yi and several others.

 

Artemis Aifotiti was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, where she begun her musical training. She is a graduate of City University London (BMus and MA in Instrumental and Vocal Composition) where she studied piano with Norman Beedie at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama  and composition with Professor Rhian Samuel. She worked with several organisations, ensembles and performers and her pieces have been performed by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Avaton Contemporary Music Festival, Commandaria Orchestra, Center of Cypriot Composers, Chronos Contemporary Music Ensemble in several countries such as Cyprus, Malta, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Spain, Belgium, UK and USA.

Hailed for his energetic and inspirational performances, the Cypriot clarinetist George Georgiou enjoys a career as a classical and contemporary clarinetist. He appeared in many solo concerts and recitals in Europe, Middle East and USA. He collaborated with some prominent musicians such as the legendary cellist Rohan de Saram, Prazak Quartet, Apple Hill String Quartet, Chilingirian String Quartet, the violinist Movses Pogossian and he appeared as a soloist with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Sinfonietta, Commandaria Orchestra and Moscow Virtuosi. In his research for new repertoire, George started commissioning works for clarinet and so far he collaborated with the most dominant composers from Cyprus. He premiered several works featuring the clarinet with most of them being dedicated to him. He is a member of Georgiou Georgieva DUO, Lyrical Noise Ensemble, Quintus Ensemble, Chronos Contemporary Music Ensemble, Patsiaoura Ensemble and Claritar Duo. He holds the position of clarinet professor at the ARTE ACADEMY of MUSIC. George is a graduate from City University, London, where he studied clarinet with Julian Farrell and Joy Faral at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is also a MBA graduate from the Neapolis University Paphos, Cyprus and a member of Mensa Cyprus. His busy profile gained him an international recognition and he became a Selmer Paris Clarinet Artist, a Silverstein Ligature Artist, Marca Reeds Artist and a Royal Global Accessories Artist. He is also the Cyprus Chair and the Middle East Regional Chair of the International Clarinet Association and a member of the association’s New Music Committee. His first Digital Album with Solo Clarinet Works by Cypriot Composer was released in 2023
